Brian Coates, long time member and friend of many, died at home yesterday afternoon.
We have fond memories of his cheeky smile and happy demeanour.
He brought Thao into the Club a little over 12 years ago and their love, dedication and adoration for each other was envied.
We send love and sympathy to Thao and daughter Sarah.

1/12/22 It's getting closer to the time when we will need to elect a new committee.

9/1/23 We didn't have a flood of nominations for the committee at the January meeting, so you lot are stuck with the same mob.

President Gary Priest; Secretary Ken Wagnitz; Treasurer Robin Butler;
General Committee Peter Castle, Ray Murray, Ian Pascoe, Gail Priest.

-No need for any voting at our AGM next meeting at The Maid.

On a phone or tablet, use finger and thumb on the screen to resize the view.
Move the view out until you see all the menu.
If the menu remains a problem for anyone, I will have to move it to the top of the page.
(On a phone, the menu page appears by itself, to make navigation easier.)

So I added it to the Links page.
While there I fixed up all the broken and changed links! The net never stays still.

8/3/22 The March SABC breakfast was good fun but poorly attended.
A few pics at
We had 6 from SA and 8 from Vic. Brenton & Glenda didn't make it because they were isolating.

The April SABC breakfast is cancelled while some of us go to the national Rally/AGM.

Robin is asked me to publicise that
"Gary at Fleurieu Branch is organising a weekend trip to Mt Gambier Friday 8th April to Sunday 10 April".
More info is on the Fleurieu or SA Calendar page. (Robin is going.)

We had near 60 people at the March meeting at The Maid. Plenty came for a look-see.
Everyone I spoke to reported the food was good. Noisy environment though, like most modern places.
A few pics at

7/2/22 There are a few piccies from the Feb SABC breakfast at Mt Barker in the photo gallery.

We had 31 there. Almost midday before some left, so they must have had a good social time.

The March SABC breakfast is at Bordertown. Hoping to get some Vics over.

4/2/22 We had an AGM last night. The committee is changed! You can see the new mob on the Committee page.

It was our last meeting at Chief St. A bit sad.
So head off to The Maid for our March meeting. Details on the Venue page.

8/1/22 Here is hoping you all had a good xmas and new year turnover. No doubt some parties got cancelled!
We had a January meeting. Around 30 people rocked up.

President: Gary Priest; Secretary: Ken Wagnitz; Treasurer: Peter Castle; General Committee: Robin Butler, Ray Murray, Gail Priest.

Our branch AGM will be held on February 3rd, at 2 Chief St Hindmarsh, (where we currently have meetings).

From March onwards, our Thursday night meetings will be held at The Maid, 1 Magill Rd. (What you would know as the Maid & Magpie.)
The large carpark can be entered from either Magill or Payneham road.

The kitchen will close at 8.30, so order any dessert or cake before then. Coffee is available from the bar til late.
Entry to our closed-off area will be signposted.
At the current COVID density rules, we are limited to 40 in that area, but over that, latecomers can perch in the bar or other dining areas.
We hope the rules will be relaxed by then.

In case you haven't noticed, the December Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.

12/10/21 The Odyssey at Berri is now a memory. I think those that attended, enjoyed themselves.
The weather was kind to us. Great for riding.

In case you haven't noticed, the October Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.

1/9/21 Text of the email sent out to our 'news' subscribers and others:

Dean Earle, our cheerful Sunday rider friend, died last Sunday 29th August. He suffered a burst blood vessel while riding his bicycle on the Thursday. (Confirms that bicycling is more dangerous than motorcycling.)

Dean's funeral is this Friday. The service will be limited to family and close friends. His family would appreciate a motorcycle escort from the service to the wake.

To that end, can we please have riders at the funeral location, to ride with the family car(s) to the wake. An appropriate addition to your normal riding gear would be a white scarf. If you can't rustle up white, another colour will do. It may be rainy, so wet weather gear might be needed. Please don't let this put you off.

Ride start at approximately 3.30-3.45pm Friday 3rd September: Peter Elberg Funerals, 280 Grange Rd, Flinders Park - across from the Findon hotel. (Starts after the funeral service ends.)

Ride End at: Old Collegians Football Club, 26 Laurel Ave, Linden Park.

We should be able to attend the wake at the end, depending on numbers. Hopefully we can demonstrate that Dean was a valued Ulysses member.

Details of the ride will be firmed up at our Thursday meeting.
If any more info needs dissemination, it will be on the Adelaide Branch website (https://ulyssesadelaide.org.au/) and Facebook page.
Check them out late Friday morning.
I anticipate a ride similar to a Sunday ride, with leader and tail end charlie.

Regards, Ken Wagnitz,
President,
Ulysses Club, Adelaide Branch.

30/8/21 I'm very sorry to report that Dean Earle our Sunday rider mate, died yesterday.
He suffered a burst blood vessel to his heart on Thursday while riding his bicycle. Dean's son would like to see a motorcycle ride, possibly from the funeral service location to the wake.
So calling all riders who might want to gear up on Friday for a short ride, and possibly a drink to see Dean off.
Details will be provided once known.

22/8/21 The Odyssey registration is LIVE.
Info and a link to the registration page is on the 2021 Odyssey menu item.
Note the comments on caravan park accommodation.

Our website URL is now https://ulyssesadelaide.org.au/.
The .com.au version will still work for some time, but we are trying to reflect the real nature of our group.

3/8/21 In case anyone is wondering, the Adelaide Branch meeting is on this Thursday night.
And so is the SABC breakfast at Milang on Saturday, from 9.30am.
Some of us will be staying in the caravan park for the weekend.

Remember to bring a mask to everything. You will need it on when inside and not eating or drinking.

21/7/21 Please note that COVID19 restrictions are affecting our events.
Keep an eye on our calendar and website for last minute changes.

2/7/21 Toddy's service today was great. I've never laughed so much at a celebration of someone's life.
What a character he was. Toddy has left his mark on many institutions, including the Ulysses Mallee branch. We will miss him.

Sadly, our mid-year dinner is cancelled, due to lack of interest.

26/6/21 The funeral of Rob Todd (Toddy) will be held at the Barmera Golf Club, on Friday July 2nd at 11:00a.m.
Another good one gone.

11/6/21 We had 25 at the SABC breakfast at Angaston. Great venue.

We had only 12 bikes (plus Robin) come to Waggies last Sunday for lunch, on the ride led by Dom Carli.
Disappointing turnout, especially with a free scrumptious lunch on offer. (Not helped by coincidence of a Torrens Valley ride ending at Sue's for lunch.)
The weather was cool but dry. -A few photos and map are in the Photo Gallery.

The SABC and Events pages have been updated to show future items. Members might want to book for some weekender opportunities.

The June Odyssey is posted. Download it from the Magazine page.

Our mid-year dinner is approaching, and very few have registered for it. If we don't get the numbers, it will be cancelled.
Please consider it, register and pay. (If we cancel, all payments will be refunded.)
Info and registration link is via the Events page, here.

We had 47 at the SABC breakfast at The Oasis. Pretty good venue. There are a few photos in our gallery.

The Feb Odyssey is posted, download it from the Magazine page.

16/1/21 The Friday night dinner was a hit. They have now started again, but the time has advanced to 6.30pm.
Check out the Events page for details of the next one, and the January Chat n Coffee details.

Also starting, are SABC breakfasts. See the SABC page for details (February - The Oasis).

The next meeting is our AGM. Please come along.

7/1/21 See the Events page for info on our monthly dinner, 15th Jan.
Please note that we need numbers for all events these days. Venues insist. Let organisers known if you are attending an event.

Nominations for the 2021 committee are in (well, extracted might be the right word).
The lineup looks like: president, Ken Wagnitz; secretary, Gary Priest; treasurer, Peter Castle; committee, Gayle McDonald, Ray Murray, Robin Butler, Val Cullinan.
-To be ratified at the AGM in February.

6/1/21 We hope your New Year start was a good one, and here's hoping 2021 will see improvements in getting out and about.

The January Chat n Coffee details are on the Events page (it's at Golden Grove).

Don't forget that the February meeting is our branch AGM. -Too bad about the national one this year.

18/12/20 The Adelaide Rides Calendar for 2021 has been fleshed out a bit. Ride leaders are set (but adjustable).
Note that we alternate with Fleurieu, so those really keen can join them on our off weekends.

Ride piccies and a video of the ride done by Frank last Sunday are in the Gallery. Maybe we can show the video at the next meeting.

3/12/20 Sadly, our xmas dinner for 2020 is cancelled.

You can download a committee nomination form from our Info page.

19/11/20 The December Coffee n Chat session is CANCELLED, due to our COVID19 lockdown.
At this stage our December meeting at Chief St is still on. Have a look on the website or our calendar before you come, in case it has to be cancelled too.

14/11/20 The ride tomorrow (Sun 15/11) ends at Freene's for lunch.
It will be a hot ride. If you want to drive there for lunch, please let Sue know well ahead on 0413 567 747.

16/10/20 You can find info about the upcoming weekender at Pt Elliot on the Events page.

12/10/20 If you want to transfer a historic registration to Ulysses from another club membership, Hobbit has written a how-to PDF. Download if from our Info page.

6/10/20 Thought I'd better clarify a mistake in the October Odyssey magazine.
Our weekender at the end of October is at Pt Elliot, not Tumby Bay. Doh.

27/9/20 For those interested in the 3 Peninsulas Ride starting Sep 18th, a PDF of the ride start points is here.
Contact Dom Carli as per details on the sheet if you are going.

8/8/20 As announced at the Thursday meeting, the 2020 SA Odyssey is cancelled.
Apologies everyone, we hope you can see the sense in this. Hopefully we will still be able to gather by October.

We had an email from Just Bikes, reminding us that members can post bike ads for free. Post on their website, or email classifieds@justauto.com.au.

Symen, one of our Wednesday riders is expected to feature in the Sunday Mail, Sun 16th Aug.

Branch polo shirts have been ordered. Expect to see some samples at the next meeting. Around $40 each.

Michele is at it again. Click here for a flyer on branch monthly coffee mornings and a branch not-the-Odyssey-weekend in October.
First Ulysses Chat’N’Coffee session is at Pickle In The Middle Cafe, 134 Unley Road, Unley. Tues 25th August, 10am.

5/7/20 July Meeting Summary:
We had 35 at the July meeting, our first since the COVID19 fiasco started. Numbers were a bit down on usual. The cold wet weather probably didn't help.
-Names and phone numbers were recorded in case we need to trace people!
Ken showed a possible branch polo shirt, which seemed acceptable to everyone, so an order will be placed for some.
We talked about an Odyssey. Adelaide Branch is hosting, if we can go ahead this year. Not too many offers of help.
We talked about starting the SABC. -Probably in August.
We talked about an xmas show. The meeting venue appears to be a popular choice. No offer of helpers though. :(
The National Thunder Rally mentioned below, is cancelled for 2020.
The website cost us $98.64 this year.

Ken is acting secretary for the moment. A volunteer for the position would be welcome. (Have to be able to work with a difficult president.)

Don't forget that we post pictures from Sunday rides etc in the photo gallery. (Link in the menu on the left.)

20/6/20 Monthly meetings recommence.
There will be a monthly meeting at the usual place, on Thursday 2nd July, from 6pm.
We can have up to 75 at the venue. Social distancing rules apply, and attendees will have to write down their name and phone number.
Meals, drinks, coffee & cake, will be there as usual. Please come along.
Enter through the carpark door.

Wednesday 11th of November 2020 is the anniversary of the Wednesday Ride (23 years we believe).
This would seem to be an appropriate date on which to hold a Memorial Ride for Mick Sandley. We want to provide Advanced Notice to members of the Adelaide Branch to acknowledge that Mick's passing has not been overlooked during the Pandemic.

11/6/20 Posted from Ken's little caravan in Tumby Bay caravan park. :)

June Committee Meeting Summary by Glenda:

Branch Polo Shirts: Interest in branch polo shirts with the new logo will be explored once meetings resume.

SA Odyssey 2020: Organising an Odyssey for 2020 remains a possibility but is on hold until SA Government Covid 19 restrictions allow.

National Rally 2021: Ulysses members will have received an email from the national webmaster with links to information about the rally in Mandurah in 2021. Thumb drives with that same information have been sent to branches. Ring Ken if you want to borrow one.

New Committee Member: I am retiring from the committee. I have filled the spot for longer than I originally intended and it is now time for me to stand aside. The committee voted unanimously to accept Ray Murray onto the committee so as to keep the number 'legal'. Ken will perform secretarial duties until a replacement is found. Volunteers welcome to apply.

Note that rides can now group in numbers up to 20. Sadly this is still too little for monthly meetings, breakfasts etc.
Monthly dinners are still problematic because venues can only have up to 20 total in a room (including ALL customers).

Farewell Mick and Bryan:
The current gathering restrictions mean that the Ulysses Club won't be involved in the funeral for Mick Sandley (so Guzzi Bob tells me).
Also no longer with us is Bryan Cutt, -also an Adelaide member from years back. Colin Leaker has written a note about Bryan which you can read here.

The National Thunder (click for website) team are hoping their October Tamworth bike rally will still be on. We'll hear more, 30th June.

22/5/20 Wednesday rides are starting again.
Adelaide Branch Wednesday rides will start from 27th May.
Check out the Events page for details, or look at our calendar.
Note that we have some extra guidelines to follow. See the ride guidelines here.

12/5/20 Organised Sunday rides are starting again.
In light of the loosening of COVID19 restrictions, we are running organised Sunday rides again.
Check out the Rides Calendar page for details.
But note that we have some extra guidelines to follow. See the ride guidelines here.

Sadly, social meetings are still OFF the agenda.

7/5/20 On Tuesday a few of us rode to Frank's place to say hello.
It was a good ride, Bron fed us, the chatting went well, the weather was great (if a little cool).
Click on the photo for some more photos, courtesy of Carolyn.

25/3/20 Adelaide Branch Coronavirus Measures:

After the PM's statement on TV last night, all Adelaide Branch rides are cancelled until further notice.

This means ALL Ulysses organised activites have ceased until the situation returns to normal.
It is solo rides or with a mate or two, for the time being.

If you want to keep in touch with fellow Ulyssians online, there is a forum we are trying:
https://ulyssesau.org/forum/

18/3/20 Adelaide Branch Coronavirus Measures:

The Adelaide Branch Committee has agreed unanimously to the following:

  • Thursday meetings are cancelled until further notice.
  • Friday dinners are cancelled until further notice.
  • SABC breakfasts are cancelled until further notice.
  • Sunday and Wednesday rides will continue, but not end at members' houses.
Riders are expected to observe "social distancing", and take whatever precautions they wish, eg bringing morning tea to eat spread out.
  • The 2020 Odyssey is on hold, but may go ahead depending on the situation in October.
  • The inter-committee lunch scheduled for Nov 21st may be postponed.

Note that the Lismore Rally/AGM is cancelled. The national office asks that members don't ring about refunds etc. We will be notified about all that in due course.

Sad times, but we need to stay as safe as we can, and think of the safety of others.

9/3/20 Summary of the March meeting from Glenda.

Change of Sunday rides start location: Due to congestion at the northern departure point it has been suggested that the meeting point move away from Civic Park at Modbury. Beginning on Sunday 3rd May the new departure point will be Pelican Plaza, 1007 North East Road, Modbury. For the first two rides from the new departure point, a familiar face will be at Civic Park to redirect stray riders up the road to Pelican Plaza.

The banner bearing our new logo was on display at the meeting. A smaller, more portable one is being ordered.

Business cards with our new logo have arrived and are available at meetings or on request.

There will be a sample polo shirt at the next meeting for members to check the quality and feel before we commit to ordering.

Ray Murray and Trevor Thomas have kindly offered to do the First Aid for Motorcyclists Motor Accident Management Course. We thank them for giving up a Saturday morning for fellow riders. Ulysses Club and Adelaide Branch are covering the cost.

The MAOTY (motorcycle apprentice of the year) Zone winner for 2019 is based in Adelaide. Ken Wagnitz, president of Adelaide Branch, will make the presentation at Moto Adelaide, 1075 South Road, Melrose Park on Saturday 21st March at 10.00am. It would be great if you could help acknowledge this young man’s achievement by turning up (on your bike) for the presentation.

We received a letter from Bob Sadleir explaining that he will not be renewing his membership because he is not able to attend rides and meetings at the designated times. He thanks Adelaide Branch members for the friendship and good times over the years. He is still riding and hopes to make it to Adelaide when he has time.

Beast Feast: Reminder that this Fleurieu Branch event is on Saturday 4th April following the SABC at Carrickalinga. Tickets available at Fleurieu meeting on Thursday 19th March or from Brett by phone or email until Sat 28th March. Cost: $12 for 3 course evening meal. $5 for Sunday breakfast.

26/2/20 Sad news -death of Robbo.
John Robinson (Torrens Valley Branch, ex president) died last Monday night.
Robbo's funeral is on Saturday 29/2 at 11am. Taylor & Forgie 98 Adelaide Rd Gawler South.
The wake will be held at the Vine Village.
A real loss to the Ulysses Club. Our condolences, Lorraine.

9/2/20 Summary of February meeting by Glenda.

Banners: A large banner with the new logo has been obtained. A smaller one of similar design and a leaf banner will follow.

Business cards: A request for business cards has prompted action on getting some printed. They are Adelaide Branch specific and will be ready at the next meeting.

CPR masks: With recent First Aid Training recommending that if possible the patient’s helmet stays on, 4 CPR face masks that can accommodate this (even with a full face helmet) have been purchased. They are single use items. On Sunday rides 2 will be carried by Tail End Charlies. The other two will be available for Wednesday rides.

Odyssey 2020: Suitable places to hold the event are being investigated. The long weekend in October is the preferred time. PLEASE, if you have any suggestions don’t wait till the next meeting, email or ring Ken.

AGM: Voting was not required. The committee for 2020 is as nominated. Welcome and thankyou to newcomers Robin Butler and Gayle McDonald.

At the General Meeting, Neville Gray gave a short presentation on Motocap which tests motorcycle gear. It is funded by the Queensland, NSW and Victorian governments.
Results can be viewed at motocap.com.au.

Promotion for KI bushfire relief fundraiser received: Ride on lawnmower racing at Cape Jervis on 14th March, 9am – 12noon opposite Cape Jervis Tavern.

Community Radio: Coast FM 88.7 has a motorcycle related segment on each Wednesday evening between 7 and 8.

2/2/20 The next meeting is our AGM. Please come along. (It won't take long.)

Despite the weather, we had a successful SABC breakfast at Clayton Bay.
There are a few photos in the gallery.
The March SABC is at Laura. Book accommodation now, and make a weekender of it. (No park cabins left.)

11/1/20 As promised at the January meeting, above is a link to allow members to subscribe to emails from us.

1/1/20 Happy New Year everyone.

Some of us celebrated the incoming new year at the Freene's. Thanks Sue and Don for a good party.
